Azerbaijan restricts import of cars
over 10 years old

   From May 1, 2023, Azerbaijan will restrict the import of cars that are 10+ years old from the date of issue. The exception is rare cars and cars temporarily imported into the customs territory.
   This is stated in the decision No. 94 of the Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan dated March 29, 2023.
   As stated in the explanation to this decision, the adoption of this document has environmental, social and economic goals, such as:
   – protection of health and life of people and environment;
   – improvement of the ecological situation in the country;
   – stimulating the import of environmentally friendly hybrid and electric vehicles;
   – updating the fleet, as well as reducing the number of cases leading to accidents;
   – stimulating the development of the automotive industry in Azerbaijan, etc.
   I emphasize that the gradual transition to hybrid and electric vehicles is part of the state policy implemented within the framework of the “National Priorities for Socio-Economic Development: Azerbaijan 2030”.
   Reminder, the import of electric vehicles was completely exempted from VAT starting
from January 1, 2019, and from January 1, 2022, the import of hybrid vehicles, the age of which does not exceed 3 years from the date of issue and an engine capacity of not more than 2500 cm3, is exempted from VAT for 3 years.
